Hosting Plans

Posted on Sun, 09 Mar 2008 by Newfie

Well I have been thinking about what kind of plans we can offer at Puffin Host, its really hard to decide what to offer. Every site has different needs, and therefore not all sites would fit set plans. So until decided otherwise we will not offer any plans, we will provide you with accounts that have no restrictions. As long as your site makes reasonable use of our resources, that includes following the TOS and keeping in mind there are other users on the server, you will be hosted by us.

The We Are Back Newsletter

Posted on Sun, 02 Mar 2008 by Newfie

What is happening?

If you already haven't heard Puffin Host free hosting is back! We are returning from where we left off about a year ago, when we closed free hosting applications.

Although we had closed applications we still provided hosting to members who were already with us, some people who signed up almost 5 years ago are still on our servers!

Over the past year all the staff of Puffin Host have been continuing on with their busy lives but one thing was missing for us, the Puffin Host community. So me (Newfie), Clemens (Neverpanic) and Raphael (Atomo64) have decided to come back as system administrators and open free hosting again, on new servers.

What does this mean for current Hostees?

Well, right now we have 90% of accounts moved from the old server to our new servers. This means that you will no longer be able to login, as the login details have changed, check the forums for info on how to regain access to your account.

New Server + New Control Panel

After years of messing around with troublesome control panels such as cpanel, plesk and vhcs we have come to the conclusion that we need something open source, has lots of features and has a good developer community. The new control panel is ispconfig, it meets all these requirements. The transition to this panel maybe difficult as it is so different, but just post in the support section if you have questions, and we will gladly help you out.

What happened to the forums?

Looking at the forums after a year of no posting is a bit stange, and a lot of stuff is no longer relevant. So I have moved all the old posts to an archive section. Also you will notice I have reduced the number of forum sections to make the forums easier to read. This being said we want as much community interaction as possible, so we are asking everyone to get back on the forums and start posting! If you want to reuse a topic idea from the old forums go ahead, if you think we need a new forum section post about it in feedback. The reason we started Puffin Host was to be a forum and community.

Applications Being Accepted

We haven't yet worked out what plans we will be offering everyone, but you can still apply for hosting and we will accept you with an account without any restrictions for now. Tell your friends about signing up!

Getting Your New Login

Posted on Wed, 27 Feb 2008 by Newfie

Can't login to ftp/control panel? Read below.

We are moving everyone to the new server, if you want to get your new login you will need to reply with your name, email and primary domain. Besides this you will need to send both myself and neverpanic a email from the account you used to signup for this service, please put "Free Hosting" in the subject, no body is needed. The reason for this is to prove ownership of your site. Once everything has been confirmed you will be PMed on the forums with the new login details. If you have any problems or are confused in anyway, post in the support section of the site. If you have already been sent your login details in the last week don't post here again you are ok.
